Program Overview

The Student Research Associate Program is designed to engage motivated students in a structured research environment. Associates will work closely with the Justice Definitions’ team to conduct scholarly secondary research, synthesize complex legal and social concepts, and translate these findings into clear, concise, and verifiable wiki definition pages.

Program Structure

The SRAP operates on a flexible, project-based model, typically lasting one academic semester or a designated project cycle.

A. Roles and Responsibilities of a Student Research Associate

  • Research & Content Curation: Conduct in-depth secondary research on assigned legal and justice-related term.
  • Definition Drafting: Curate or significantly improve existing wiki entries, adhering to Wiki’s style guide and standards for neutrality and verification.
  • Source Verification: Utilize reliable sources (academic journals, legal texts, established reports) and properly cite all information.
  • Collaboration: Participate in regular check-ins with Wiki reviewers and collaborate with other associates on shared projects.
  • Peer Review: Provide constructive feedback on the work of fellow associates.

B. Mentorship and Support

All associates will be assigned a Wiki reviewer or senior researcher who will serve as a mentor, offering guidance on subject matter, and research methodologies.

Eligibility and Criteria

The SRAP seeks dedicated students with a strong interest in research and a commitment to academic rigor.

A. Eligibility Requirements

  • Enrollment Status: Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program (or recently graduated within the last six months).
  • Field of Study: Students from backgrounds in Law and Public Policy are highly encouraged to apply.
  • Writing Skills: Strong proficiency in academic writing and the ability to translate complex ideas into clear, accessible prose.

B. Selection Criteria

  • Statement of Interest: A clear articulation of why the applicant is interested in contributing to the Justice Definitions Wiki and how the program aligns with their academic or career goals.
  • Relevant Experience: Demonstrated aptitude for research and critical analysis.
  • Writing Sample: Submission of a writing sample (e.g., academic paper, assignment, research report) that showcases the applicant's research and writing abilities.
