Talk:Extra-judicial killings
While the source for the (now deleted) section on "impact of extra-judicial killings" anyway did not work, I don't think we should anywhere make the claim that extra-judicial killings have ANY positive impacts. There is no research to show that it acts as a detterent, nor any of the other claims made in the section were backed by any emperical or authoritative source. At best, we can claim that detterence etc. are the common justifications given for exttra-judicial killings, but that too needs to be backed by a proper source. In my opinion, better to delete the entire section, as I have done for now.
Because of lack of time I could not add findings from the other studies mentioned. Please do so if you can.
It is worth noting that there is significant ambiguity and inconsistency regarding the definition and usage of terms, both within and across organisations. For example, the NHRC reports use the terms “encounter deaths” and “deaths in police action” interchangeably, while the NCRB report refers to them as “encounter killings.” (see Chapter 8, SPIR 2025 for more details)
